Brownies and cookies are some of our favorite afternoon treats and we are thrilled to have discovered so many protein-packed varieties made by The Protein Bakery in NYC. Free of fat, preservatives, and wheat flour, these protein filled baked goodies are a great option for the health conscious or those looking to cut calories and lose weight.
Protein makes you full faster, prevents spikes in blood sugar levels, and supports healthy immune function. Often protein supplements and foods with added protein don’t taste good but we can attest that The Protein Bakery has creatively combined natural and healthy ingredients to optimize taste. The Protein Bakery owner Stephen Lincoln welcomed us into his bakery loft in NYC’s flatiron district and was most helpful in explaining the ingredients and production process.
After sampling over 15 different types of brownies, blondies and cookies including peanut butter, oatmeal, and chocolate chip we decided that our favorites were the black and white blondie (featured above), with 11 grams protein and 3 grams fiber, and the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, with 4 grams protein and 2 grams fiber. We also loved the mini brownies and blondies with 4 grams of protein and only 100 calories. Other fun creations include the pumpkin walnut blondie and this month’s ginger oatmeal raisin cookie.
The Protein Bakery loft is located at 20 West 20th Street #309 and is open to the public during weekday afternoons. The Protein Bakery treats can be ordered online and are available for purchase at Bergdorf Goodman and Equinox gyms in NYC.
